I have always suspected that many people regard the annual VSCC Prescott Speed Hill Climb as some kind of very English garden party - with cars. And why not? Whatever your priorities, motoring or socialising, it’s a magical couple of days. Of course, being an outdoor event during the English summer, the weather cannot be relied upon.
And so it proved this year, with the Saturday severely hampered by rain, slowing the competitors on the hill and deterring spectators.
Sunday however, dawned brighter and the rain held off at least until later in the afternoon, by which time people were thinking of heading home anyway.
The traditional TOC champagne, strawberries and cream was the popular focal point at lunchtime and the happy throng was able to toast the victorious Talbot team’s splendid performance at Historic Le Mans this year. The 100th Anniversary – what a year to win! See Talbots in Competition for the full report in this issue.
Our Saturday evening supper at the Shutters, with our STD invited guests, was a lively social affair.
Thanks as ever to the volunteers who helped make the TOC so welcoming – and fun! The strawberries and champagne team of Carol Lucas, Hilary Bryant and Gabriella Wills, to Neil Lucas for providing the drinks, Guy Gregory for his sterling bar work and Simon Scott and his sons for arriving early on the Friday to put up our marquees and bag our pitch. Without the help of our volunteer helpers we could not put on the kind of show that other clubs can only admire.
